International starting field at DEKM-Kick-Off in Wackersdorf

At the Prokart Raceland in Wackersdorf, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) starts its fourth season next weekend (04.06.-06.06.). 14 drivers from twelve nations will ensure a top-class field. In total, the worldwide unique Electro Kart racing series competes in four events distributed in Germany and Belgium.

In 2020, the DEKM used the newly developed High Performance Racing E-Kart “Project E20” by BRP-Rotax with great success and is relying on it again this season. The electric kart convinced with higher power, longer driving times and lower weight. The title fight was correspondingly close – in the third attempt Luka Wlömer from Berlin won the champion trophy.

Compact race calendar with four rounds in Germany and Belgium

After an extended winter break, a compact race calendar awaits the participants of the DEKM. The starting signal is given on the 1,197-metre-long Prokart Raceland in Wackersdorf in the Upper Palatinate. In the beginning of July, from 9.-11.07., a double premiere awaits the DEKM. For the first time, the e-kart racing series will make a guest appearance as part of the Rotax MAX Challenge Germany in the Arena E in Mülsen. The second half of the season consists of the only foreign guest appearance at the beginning of August (30.07.-01.08.) in Genk, Belgium. Finally, the DEKM travels again to Mülsen. From September 10th to 12th, the season finale will take place on the racetrack near Zwickau.

International field of participants promises a lot of excitement

With the German Jasmin Stein and Ellis Spiezia from America, there are two repeat offenders this season. Both were already at the start in 2020 at the DEKM and are now contesting their second year in the worldwide unique Electric Kart racing series. All other pilots, on the other hand, are represented for the first time. “We are looking forward to the fourth season of the DEKM. The field is more international than ever and among the drivers are several talents who have already proven their skills in other series,” says Oliver Schielein, Managing Director of DEKM promoter IKmedia, giving a first outlook.

Champion receives Formula E simulator test from Porsche Motorsport

Since the first season, Porsche Motorsport has been supporting the champions of the German Electric Kart Championship. This year’s champion will receive an exclusive Formula E simulator test. In addition, he will receive a voucher from the company Point Racing for an ARAI karting helmet and a starting place for the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals 2021 in Bahrain. “The strong partners of DEKM are an important building block for the success of the championship. We are pleased that, thanks to their support, DEKM will be able to carry out the DEKM successfully,” Oliver Schielein adds.

Extensive hygiene and safety concept makes racing possible

The event takes place in compliance with an extensive hygiene and safety concept, which was a prerequisite for approval. Oliver Schielein is looking forward to the start of the season despite the extensive measures: “In 2020, we have shown that we can carry out our races safely despite a global pandemic and trust in this experience. Some measures have even been tightened up.”

Already from Wednesday on, the participants can get used to the Project E20 E-Kart by BRP-Rotax on two official test days. It will get serious for the first time on Saturday with the qualifying for the first races. Due to the hygiene concept, no spectators are allowed in Wackersdorf, but the race action can be followed live in the online stream under www.dekm.de.
