DEKM faces season finale in Oschersleben

After 2018, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) returns to Oschersleben and will host the final races on the track in the Magdeburg Börde. Due to the Corona pandemic, the 2020 season is particularly short. Less than two months after the start of the season at the end of August in Kerpen, the drivers will now head to Oschersleben for the final. In the meantime, the world’s first electric kart championship completed two race weekends in Wackersdorf.

Luka Wlömer wants to bring title to Berlin

The classification is led by Luka Wlömer: the driver from Berlin has a 24-point lead over his chaser Joel Mesch. Wlömer is the only pilot to compete in every DEKM season since 2018. In his first season it was enough for 3rd place in the overall standings, in 2019 he even became runner-up. “I’ve been close twice, but it was never enough. This year, true to the motto “all good things come in threes”, I want to win the title. I feel very comfortable in the new Project E20 E-Kart and look forward to the finale,” Luka Wlömer says confidently.

In addition to the current runner-up Joel Mesch, Diego Stifter, Axel La Flamme and Sebastian Kraft also have chances to win the championship. Unlike the overall leader, the trio has already won at least one race. Wlömer, on the other hand, is still waiting for his first final victory, but has been the most diligent point collector to date.

Oschersleben known for many overtaking manoeuvres

The 1,018 meter long race track at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben is known for its numerous wind shade duels. The long start to home straight invites to overtaking maneuvers and promises tight race endings. In the course of the season so far, drivers from six different nations have already underlined the high power density of the electric karts from series partner BRP-Rotax. Several races ended in a photo finish.

Award Ceremony on Sunday Evening

Immediately after the final race on Sunday evening, the award ceremony of the 2020 season will be taking place. In addition to winning trophies for the three first-place finishers, Porsche Motorsport is also supporting the champion in its race driver development with various training programs, and will also receive a test day in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport with Team Allied Racing. Further the champion and runner-up, as well as an raffled DEKM driver, will be invited to the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Portimao (POR). DEKM partner Point Racing puts an Arai Karting sport helmet voucher for the champion on top of it.

Finale live on online stream

The finale of the DEKM will again be accompanied extensively with a live stream. Under www.dekm.de, qualifying, pre-finals and finals can be watched on Saturday and Sunday.
